What is a Skin Needling?

Skin needling or collagen induction therapy is a natural treatment to improve skin texture, smooth wrinkles and fine lines and soften scars. It is suitable for all skin types and all areas of the face, neck and back of hands.

Skin is needled with a medical grade roller device with micro needles ranging from 0.5mm to 1.5mm in length. Scarring is treated with needles up to 2mm.

These needles create microscopic punctures in the skins epidermis, and the body’s natural healing takes over causing new collagen and elastin fibres to be laid down, thus improving the appearance of the skin.

Suitable skin types

• Fine lines, dull skin, enlarged pores.

• Acne and chicken pox scarring.

• Lines caused by smoking.

• Rejuvenation of hands and neck.

A minimum of 3 treatments are required to achieve optimal results, with 3-4 weeks between each treatment.

What does the treatment involve?

The skin is cleansed and a numbing cream applied for 30-40minutes to reduce discomfort. Each area of the face is needled up to 20 times. Skin should appear flushed (pink to red) evenly to indicate a good needling result.

This redness may last 12-24hours post treatment. Skin may also feel ‘tight’, like a sunburn.

In the first week after the treatment some peeling may occur which lightens any pigmentation or scarring. The results are gradual as collagen production takes time, but results can be seen in a 5-6week period.

Skin needling cannot be performed;

• Two weeks after having dermal fillers or Botox.

• On raised moles/warts or lesions.

• During pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• If you are taking warfarin.

• Active herpes (cold sores) or acne breakouts with pustules.

• If you are a diabetic.

Post treatment for 48 hours

• No skin care products with glycolic/salicylic acid or retinol

• No touching, rubbing or picking the face

• No spray tan products

• Make up free if possible, or try use mineral make up

• No sun exposure / sunbed use

• Wear an SPF of at least 30
