What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical solution is applied to the skin to accelerate the skins natural exfoliation in a controlled way, so that new skin can grow in its place.
Peels are carried out on the face and neck and have the following benefits:
Improve the look and feel of oily skin.
Improve the appearance of mild acne scarring.
Reduce fine lines.
Improve the appearance of wrinkles caused by sun damage and premature skin aging.
Superficial peels are the mildest type of chemical peels and can be used on all skin types.
The Peel Procedure
Skin is cleansed before the peel is applied and left on the skin for a few minutes. You will feel a ‘tingling sensation’. Water is used to neutralise the acid and a special recovery cream is applied. Some redness may appear but will quickly fade.
A course of peels is recommended to achieve optimal results, 4 sessions at 2 week intervals.
After the Peel
The redness will disappear a few minutes after the peel. Skin will feel tight but smooth and a superficial desquamation will appear in the form of dry patches.
It is important to use a SPF of at least 30 during and after your course of peels, and to avoid direct sunlight and sunbeds.
Contra Indications
Chemical peels should not be carried out if;
You have recently used Isotretinan to treat acne.
You have recently had facial surgery or facial radiation therapy.
You have an active Herpes infection (cold sore).
You are pregnant or breast feeding.
You have an allergy to aspirin or are an asthmatic.
